Ayat on Ahl al-Bayt (أهل البيت)

Purification is Central (33:33)

  • Allah declares special purification (تطهيرًا).
  • This shows honor, not automatic immunity—it is tied to obedience in the context.
  • The Qur’an uses “Ahl al-Bayt” explicitly in TWO places only:
  • 33:33 → Household of Prophet ﷺ
  • 11:73 → Household of Ibrahim

  • “Ahl al-Bayt” in 33:33:
    • Includes the wives (clear from context)
    • May include others (due to grammar shift)
  • But:

إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
Indeed, Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely. (33:33)
بے شک اللہ چاہتا ہے کہ اے اہلِ بیت! تم سے ہر ناپاکی دور کر دے اور تمہیں خوب پاک کر دے۔
Ciertamente, Allah quiere apartar de vosotros la impureza, gente de la casa, y purificaros completamente.
يَا نِسَاءَ النَّبِيِّ لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍ مِّنَ النِّسَاءِ إِنِ اتَّقَيْتُنَّ فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ وَقُلْنَ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا
O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any other women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech. (33:32)
اے نبی کی بیویو! تم عام عورتوں جیسی نہیں ہو، اگر تم اللہ سے ڈرتی ہو تو نرم لہجے میں بات نہ کرو کہ جس کے دل میں بیماری ہو وہ لالچ کرے، اور سیدھی بات کہو۔
¡Oh esposas del Profeta! No sois como ninguna otra mujer. Si teméis a Allah, no seáis suaves en el hablar, no sea que quien tiene enfermedad en su corazón codicie, sino hablad con palabras correctas.
وَقَرْنَ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَىٰ وَأَقِمْنَ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتِينَ الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِعْنَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا
And stay in your houses and do not display yourselves like that of the former times of ignorance. Establish الصلاة, give zakah, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Indeed, Allah intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely. (33:33 full context)
اور اپنے گھروں میں ٹھہری رہو اور پہلی جاہلیت کی طرح زینت ظاہر نہ کرو، نماز قائم کرو، زکوٰۃ دو، اور اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی اطاعت کرو۔ بے شک اللہ چاہتا ہے کہ اے اہلِ بیت! تم سے ناپاکی دور کرے اور تمہیں پاک کرے۔
Permaneced en vuestras casas y no os exhibáis como en la ignorancia antigua. Estableced la oración, dad el zakat y obedeced a Allah y a Su Mensajero. Allah quiere apartar de vosotros la impureza, gente de la casa, y purificaros completamente.
وَاذْكُرْنَ مَا يُتْلَىٰ فِي بُيُوتِكُنَّ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَالْحِكْمَةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ لَطِيفًا خَبِيرًا
And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom. Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Aware. (33:34)
اور یاد کرو جو تمہارے گھروں میں اللہ کی آیات اور حکمت پڑھی جاتی ہیں۔ بے شک اللہ بڑا باریک بین، باخبر ہے۔
Recordad lo que se recita en vuestras casas de los signos de Allah y la sabiduría. Allah es Sutil y Conocedor.
قَالُوا أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ ۖ رَحْمَتُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ
They said: Do you marvel at the decree of Allah? The mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, O People of the House. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious. (11:73)
انہوں نے کہا: کیا تم اللہ کے حکم پر تعجب کرتی ہو؟ اللہ کی رحمت اور اس کی برکتیں تم پر ہوں اے اہلِ بیت! بے شک وہ تعریف کے لائق، بزرگی والا ہے۔
Dijeron: ¿Te asombras del mandato de Allah? La misericordia de Allah y Sus bendiciones sean sobre vosotros, gente de la casa. Él es Digno de alabanza, Glorioso.
قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَىٰ أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا عَجُوزٌ وَهَٰذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ
She said: Woe to me! Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this my husband is an old man? Indeed, this is an amazing thing! (11:72 – context of Ibrahim’s household)
اس نے کہا: ہائے افسوس! کیا میں اس بڑھاپے میں بچہ جنوں گی جبکہ میرا شوہر بھی بوڑھا ہے؟ یہ تو بڑی عجیب بات ہے!
Ella dijo: ¡Ay de mí! ¿Voy a dar a luz siendo anciana y mi esposo también anciano? Esto es algo asombroso.
قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَىٰ
Say: I do not ask you any reward except love for near relatives. (42:23)
کہہ دو: میں تم سے اس پر کوئی اجر نہیں مانگتا مگر قرابت داروں کی محبت۔
Di: No os pido recompensa excepto el amor hacia los parientes cercanos.
